If you love attending sporting events in person, then Durham NC is certainly a place you might want to think about living. Regardless of whether you like amateur, collegiate, or professional sports, this region has games taking place on fields, courts, and ice every month of the year.
The college level is where the most action is at. This region is dominated by the Atlantic Coast Conference, or ACC. Durham is home to Duke University, but nearby Chapel Hill is home to the primary campus of the University of North Carolina. Wake Forest University and North Carolina State University are two other huge schools here, and the four routinely battle each other in football, basketball, hockey, baseball, softball, lacrosse, soccer, and golf, just to name a few of the dozens of sports each school competes in.
Visiting teams also come in from the rest of the conference and indeed the nation, and nearby Greensboro is often home to conference tournaments and NCAA games during March Madness.
High school sports abound in the region too, as hundreds of thousands of students attend these level schools as they dream of joining the NCAA athletes on their fields of play.
Professional sports are also present here in many different leagues. The one major league franchise in the area is the NHL Carolina Hurricanes, the first major league pro team to bring a championship to the Carolinas, which the NFL Carolina Panthers or NBA Charlotte Hornets have yet to do hours to the southeast.
The NBA Developmental League does operate the Greensboro Swarm just a little bit down the interstate from Durham, and Durham itself joins many other local cities in hosting its own minor league baseball team during the beautiful springs and hot summers this place is known for.
