Durham apartments can be hard to find depending on the time of year you’re looking for them. This city is part of the ‘Triangle’ region of North Carolina, and it is one of the three cities forming the triad of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill. Together, these three cities collectively form one of the largest metropolitan areas in not just the Tarheel State, but also the greater Southeast, rivaling even Charlotte’s area in size, when counting Wake County. The area is large enough that a major league sports team, the NHL Carolina Hurricanes, call this place home.
Something else that calls this place home are a number of colleges and universities, and that’s a huge reason why Durham apartments are sometimes hard to find. Duke University and its thousands of students call Durham home two semesters a year, with some summer activity. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University are also both huge colleges with tens of thousands of students and are only minutes away. Wake Forest University, another big school is also in the area.
Many students choose off-campus apartments over dorm life in order to have a bit more freedom in their lifestyle, and also just to have more space, peace, and quiet. Instructors, adjuncts, professors, and interns also need places to live, further putting pressure on the local rental unit market.
Having said all this, there are units often available at any given time. However, the start and ending dates of your possible lease might impact just how much you pay each month for your Durham apartment. Make sure to check with the leasing office about just how many students usually live there so you get some idea who your neighbors will be.
